About the role

As Hybrid Powertrain System Engineer, your mission is to drive the system design and integration of our hybrid powertrain for our next-generation aircraft. You bring deep expertise in conventional hybrid powertrain components - including combustion engines, gas turbines, and fuel systems - and translate program needs into a robust, certifiable system architecture.

You define, validate, and manage requirements on system and equipment level, and you negotiate and evaluate technical solutions within the engineering team and together with external suppliers. Beyond the design work, you take ownership of powertrain testing campaigns: you support the design, build-up, commissioning, and operation of the powertrain testbench, ensuring safe and efficient execution.

Working close to high-voltage and high-power hardware is part of the job - and thanks to your hands-on testing background, you enable reliable development progress from concept through verification.

What you will do

  • Creating an airworthy system design for a hybrid powertrain
  • Defining and validating requirements on system and equipment level
  • Leading technical negotiations team-internally as well as with suppliers
  • Coordinate closely with multi-disciplinary teams including propulsion, energy distribution
  • Design test facility, test bench, and data acquisition systems for a hybrid aircraft powertrain
  • Coordinate closely with multi-disciplinary teams including propulsion, energy distribution, and aircraft design
  • Plan, conduct, and evaluate test series

what you bring

  • Have strong experience with conventional components in hybrid powertrains, e.g. piston engine and gas turbines
  • Have experience in leading and delivering verification and validation campaigns for electric and hybrid aircraft propulsion systems.
  • Have experience in working with high-voltage systems (HV Training)
  • Have hands-on experience in aerospace development (ARP4754B), a clear understanding of safety-critical development processes, and experience in handling certification requirements
  • Have experience in planning, performing, and coordinating V&V activities in accordance with ARP4754B
  • Have an ability to organize and “getting-things-done”

Moreover, it would be helpful if you also

  • Have a basic knowledge on high-voltage components and Lithium-ion batteries
  • Bring basic knowledge of EASA/FAA regulations and guidance material and industry standards for eVTOL development
  • Bring experience with requirements management tools

What we offer

  • Full-scale aerospace engineering — not concept slides.
  • A 60+ engineer team at Ottobrunn, backed by IABG and developed alongside TUM and DRF Luftrettung.
  • Competitive compensation.
