About the role

As a Product Developement Intern / Working Student (m/f/d), you will help us validate and refine our product in close collaboration with customers, operators, operations experts, and internal engineering teams. Depending on your profile, the role can have either a stronger technical focus or a stronger business and market-facing focus.

You will work on topics ranging from customer outreach, expert interviews, market research, and product demonstrations to prototyping small demo systems and test setups. This role offers hands-on exposure to product development in a deep-tech environment combining technical understanding, market insight, and real customer feedback.

What you will do

As a Product Developement Intern / Working Student, you will support ERC’s product and commercial teams in product validation, customer discovery, and market understanding.

What you’ll do:

  • Conduct outreach to customers, operators, operations experts, and industry stakeholders
  • Prepare, conduct, and document expert interviews
  • Support market research, competitor analysis, and customer segmentation
  • Participate in product demonstrations, live tests, and customer workshops
  • Prototype small demo systems, mockups, or test setups to validate customer interaction
  • Support customer-facing payload, subsystem, and demonstration setups
  • Translate customer and expert feedback into product insights
  • Contribute to product validation processes, documentation, trade fairs, and field tests

what you bring

  • You are currently studying Engineering, TUM-BWL, Technology Management, or a comparable technical-business degree, ideally towards the end of your bachelor’s or during your master’s.
  • You are interested in customer-centric product development and enjoy bridging technical systems, user needs, and market opportunities.
  • Depending on your profile, you bring either a stronger technical builder mindset, a stronger business and research orientation, or a combination of both.
  • You have experience in some of the following:
    • Building your own projects, tools, prototypes, or demos
    • Working with spreadsheets, datasets, or research databases
    • Conducting customer interviews, expert interviews, user research, or market research
    • Working with microcontrollers such as ESP32, Arduino, or similar platforms
    • Using rapid prototyping tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters, or simple software mockups
  • You are proactive, communicative, and comfortable interacting with customers, operators, and external experts.
  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills in English; German is a plus.
  • Your citizenship or visa status allows you to work legally in Germany.
  • For an internship, you are available for at least 3 months full-time; for a working student role, you are available part-time alongside your studies.

What we offer

  • Full-scale aerospace engineering — not concept slides.
  • A 60+ engineer team at Ottobrunn, backed by IABG and developed alongside TUM and DRF Luftrettung.
  • Competitive compensation.
